Making Money Online Basics: Keyword Research

Let's start off from where we left off from my last post "How to make money online for Free" a few days ago. But before I get started I just have a quick word of advice. Now this blog is called "earn extra cash online for beginners," but it really should be called - make money online. You may start off just making a little spare cash, but eventually if you stick with it you will start to make some real money.

Things are starting to come together a bit more for me and I'm starting to make sales on a regular basis now. It's been a long journey so far and I think I'm finally seeing that light at the end of the tunnel. With that being said let me share some of what I've learned in the past six months or so as far as keywords are concerned.

Here are some general rules I use. I actually posted this on a forum the other day as well, but it's was just a quick cut and paste on the form so I've added a little more detail.(BTW, I'm known as 9tail there just if anyone thinks I'm stealing content)

Keep in mind all of these factors must be took into consideration for best results so without further delay here's my formula for success with Keywords:

Volume – Search Engine Traffic volume. You want to have more than just a trickle the more the better. The problem is that the more traffic you have the more competition you have.

So if you are using Article marketing as you're weapon of choice then you might not want to go above a certain amount of competing sites. I'll get to that a bit later. The most sites I've competed with and been able to achieve first page results for is 450,000 (so far).

Advertising Competition (Pay per click Cost) – How much are your competitors paying per click? The more the better of course. You should be able to figure that out buy using the google keyword tool here. Additionally you also want to check the amount of traffic as far as the amount of searches per month are concerned as well. Again the general rule here is that the more the better, however when you have more traffic searches you'll have more competition most of the time.

Site Competition – As I said in my last post use the search in google with quotes like this: "keyword" to find the number of competing sites. You may want to start off low to begin with. Maybe Ten to fifteen thousand to begin with. Or Four to five thousand if you are completely new to IM (internet marketing).

Keyword Relevance – Are the people searching for your keyword buying or just looking for information. Check sites and make sure they are selling something there already. If not you need to choose better keywords.

Price Point (Thinking Like a Consumer) – What type of buyer is typing in the keywords? Are the people searching for your keywords able to afford the products you are selling? For example, people who want to buy golf clubs are likely to have money. What else will they be searching for online besides golf clubs? Maybe golf tips? Are there affiliate programs for that? Probably... The point is different people use different keywords at different price points. You have to match the type of keywords to the price point of a particual type of buyer.

Allmost ready to get started? Well the first step is to go to blogger.com if you don't have a site already. Create an account and we'll pick up where we left off the next time. The faster you get started, the faster you be able to start making money.
